MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of Utility Workers Union of America, AFL-CIO, Local 423 is predicated upon
an advocacy role and deep commitment, first and foremost, to its membership,as well as the
rate-paying public, the overall community,and the utility industry.
UWUA Local 423, as the recognized bargaining agent for its rank-and-file members, is
dedicated to upholding the rights,needs and interests of all members and ensuring a safe,
humane work environment under their Collective Bargaining Agreements.
UWUA Local 423 is committed to assisting its members to adapting to their work
environments and the constantly changing industry. We advocate for the most current technology
and training that will empower our members with the advantages needed to succeed and earn a fair
and equitable wage and benefit package commensurate with their talents and experience, while
allowing them to provide for their families.
UWUA Local 423 recognizes the membership to be its greatest asset, and values and
encourages involvement by the members to more effectively address their needs, and to foster
solidarity. The members are provided with participation opportunities,including attending general
membership meetings, serving on union and labor-management committees,and holding positions as
stewards and safety committee representatives. The Local is committed to open communication and
dialogue with its members because a well-informed, active membership provides the foundation for
a strong Union. It is incumbent upon themembers to become active and contributing participants for
the good of the Union.
UWUA Local 423 has, throughout its history, established a tradition of advocacy for
the members, the rate-payers,and our communities by lobbying for industry and infrastructure
improvements – and will continue to do so. We are committed to empowering our members to be the
standard-bearers and the most effective, efficient,and professional utility work force in the
industry.
